My Favorite Games

Here's a list of my favorite titles for each system that I've reviewed so far.

I offer little defense as to why games are on this list. If it's here, it means that the game was either solidly designed/fun (in my opinion), or otherwise presents some facet that I personally connected with. If you're wanting recommendations from me personally, this is probably a great place to start. If I didn't enjoy it for one reason or another, it wouldn't be here.

If I seemed to enjoy a game in the review but it isn't here, it simply means that while I enjoyed the game, it didn't strike me as important, fun, or unique enough to note down specifically. I have played a LOT of games, so my standards for uniqueness can be quite high. It also might just mean I forgot to put it here because I'm dumb. Please ask if you notice.

If you feel it's a crime that some game is not on this list and wish me to reconsider, please let me know in the comments.

If there's a game here and the link is dead, the review is probably scheduled to be posted soon but has not been posted yet.

AKA - "本将棋 内藤九段将棋秘伝" (... whew!) Well, here's another "it finally happened," for you. Our first shougi game! So, now is the time when I admit to you I don't actually know how to play shougi. Which is going to be a problem, because much like riichi mahjong, the Japanese truly love their shougi, and it shows up a lot in video-games on old consoles. Just for you guys (and also because I've always wanted to), I'm going to teach myself how to play shougi to write this review and for future reviews on shougi video-games. Unsurprisingly, Honshougi Naitou blu-blu-blah  doesn't have a page on the English Wikipedia. Slightly surprisingly, it does have a page on the Japanese Wikipedia! Honshougi was published by Seta (no, not Sega-- Seta). "Jaseiken Necromancer" - Turbografx-16/PC-Engine

AKA -  邪聖剣じゃせいけんネクロマンサー ----- Introduction ----- Alright, here's the part where my blog stops functioning. I'm not sure I have the cojones to actually play a significant portion of, and review, a Japanese only RPG without even a fan translation. I'm definitely about to wear my dictionary out a little, but we'll see what happens. Oh by the way, "Jaseiken" is a combination of some kanji, my dictionary says: 聖剣 - (seiken) - "holy/sacred sword" 邪 - (ja-) - "wicked/injustice" So I'll tentatively say it means something like "Evil Sacred Sword Necromancer!" Wow, what a terrible title for English. The English Wikipedia page for Jaseiken Necromancer tells us very little. However what we can get is that it was developed and published by Hudson Soft (they sure have been busy on the PC-Engine!) and the music was composed by someone named Jun Chikuma. "Antarctic Adventure" - NES/Famicom

AKA -  けっきょく南極大冒険 - Kekkyoku Nankyoku Daibouken ----- Introduction ----- I'm pretty sure this game was also on my 'TOP GUN' bootleg cartridge growing up, but it was uncommon and you really had to look for it. Which nobody was trying to do in this household, because the game just really didn't seem that good. I haven't played it in ages, but where did it even come from? This game was made by Konami for the MSX computer in 1983. I have no idea who really was responsible for developing it or composing for it on an individual level. Even the Japanese Wikipedia doesn't tell us that much though it does mention that Penguin-kun's son, "Pen-tarou" ( probably a play on Momotarou ) makes a cameo in Parodius . It also mentions what seems obvious in retrospect-- Kekkyoku  is actually considered an "educational software" by Konami (I guess it teaches you geography). Cool. Let's play-- WAIT!
